FAQ About Our UCAS Personal Statement Service

About FiveOffers

  • Who are FiveOffers?

FiveOffers was started by two LSE graduates with extensive knowledge and experience of the UCAS application process. Dissatisfied with chronically substandard personal statements and, even worse, inexpert critiques, they founded FiveOffers as a service to give excellent advice to candidates. To accomplish this goal, FiveOffers utilises a group of specialist advisors from elite UK universities.
  • How are you different, how is your service special?

We're different in two ways. First, we are cheaper than the competition (we once saw a spelling grammar check being priced at £60!). Second, we offer exactly what most UCAS applicants need: a thorough check of their personal statement. We don't operate word limits, so your critique will be as detailed as possible. Once your personal statement is reviewed, you'll be in a position to implement the changes needed to make your personal statement offer-winning standard. The beauty is that by making the changes we suggest yourself, rather than another person, you'll be adding that elusive 'personal touch' to your statement!

The FiveOffers Service

  • What's included?

Every UCAS personal statement review checks, corrects and critiques:
    • spelling, grammar, word choice and brevity
    • structure, flow, energy, motivation, curiosity and ambition
    • sophistication, originality, insight and confidence
We're thorough; suggestions for improvement are added inline, line-by-line and paragraph-by-paragraph. In addition, we make general comments on your personal statement overall. Click here to see an example of a review.
  • How does it work / what's involved?

To get the most benefit from our service, first get your UCAS personal statement to 'first draft' standard; this is the stage when the personal statement is rough around the edges but the structure and content are in place. Then:
    • Fill in the order form and upload your personal statement.
    • Submit the form and pay £45 using Google Checkout.
    • Your UCAS personal statement is checked and edited
    • Receive a comprehensive report by email detailing the changes you need to make in order to make your personal statement ready for application
  • How long will a review take?

We believe that the quality of the review is paramount, so we'll need about 5 working days. We might take a little longer depending on the subject you're going for. We'll email you if this is the case.
  • How much, when, and how do I pay?

A UCAS personal statement review costs £45. Payment is processed through Google Checkout immediately after submitting the order form. Accepted cards: Visa (including Electron), MasterCard and Maestro (including Switch/Solo). Payment must be received before we can review your personal statement, and order form submission and payment must all be completed in one step.
  • What if I'm not satisfied?

We eliminate dissatisfaction by producing high quality reports packed with insights. Indeed, all of our customers have been very pleased with our advice. However, if you feel something's wrong, contact us and we'll try to resolve any problems.
Please note: We cannot accept failure to gain admission to universities or being caught by the UCAS plagiarism detector as reasons for complaint. We guarantee honest and reliable advice and any changes we make will not be copied from elsewhere. Also, our view is that disagreement with potentially unfavourable advice is not a valid reason for complaint.
In general, we do not issue refunds. Exceptions include emailing to cancel before reviewing has begun.
Please see our terms and conditions and privacy statement for more information.

    • Other

      • Can you write a statement for me?

No. The personal statement is exactly that: personal. FiveOffers tunes draft personal statements; we use our extensive knowledge and experience in reviewing UCAS personal statements to help ensure that your draft statement becomes as good as it can be. We cannot, however, create a statement from a list of interests. Only you can explain to the admissions tutors your motivation and drive for your chosen subject. We will, however, aim to ensure that the reasons you do give have maximum impact, and give your application the best chance of success.
      • Do you accept MA/MSc statements?

Yes! Only for taught (non-research) MA and MSc courses, though. If you're in this group, get in touch. In your message, include the course you're applying for, the university and paste the university's instructions for writing a statement of intent.
      • Who will see my personal statement?

Your personal statement will only ever been seen by the reviewer who critiques it and a responsible person in charge of quality control. Your statement will not be sold or passed on to any other party. The security and integrity of your work is of paramount importance to us. The risk is less than giving it to your friends, family or teachers for comment. For more information, please see our privacy policy.
